Promoting During the Holidays - Part II

This is the second part of our two part series on Marketing during the Holidays.

So you’ve read our first blog post on Holiday marketing tips, and you’re hungry for more. Don’t worry, Nettel has got you covered with some more tips and resources to ensure a successful and smooth marketing campaign this Holiday season.

Be personable

With Christmas for example, highlight the 12 days of Christmas. Cater these 12 days to your audience, such as the 12 best recipes, 12 best Christmas videos, or top 12 funniest family holiday photos.

Contests and deals!

These are the two things that draw much of the online attention around the holidays. Contests do not need to be too complex. The goal is to get your audience engaged with each other on your page. Most times all you will need to do is ask a simple question, or ask your audience to share photos on Facebook and Twitter of their holiday experiences. Everyone loves to share, so why not have your audience share on your website or social media page! This will not only encourage your audience to communicate with each other, but their friends and family may be drawn to your respective profiles!

Look beyond Christmas

…to the Winter solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years, the Chinese New Year, and more. Inclusive holiday wishes such as “Happy Holidays” or “Seasons Greetings” are ideal and will cater to a larger audience base! Keep this in mind throughout the year while you are promoting around the holidays.

Custom content

Tailor special holiday or seasonal emails or newsletters to your subscribers. Be careful to not go over the top, with too many images, animations, or themes. as this could disengage some of your audience. If you do not already have a mass subscription manager or email client we suggest checking out Constant Contact, MailChimp, iContact, or MadMimi.

To summarize…

-       Start early to create buzz and start the holiday conversation with your audience leading up to the holidays.

-       Have measurement tools in place to see how you have done over the holidays. Has traffic increased? Make sure to look at what words or posts have garnered the most attention and make note of them for next year.

-       Highlight your holiday spirit, and have fun doing it! With all the stress that the holidays bring, many people enjoy seeing companies have fun over the holidays and will make an effort to engage with these ones.

-       Don’t forget your regularly scheduled posts as well! By switching completely to holiday mode you could be alienating some of your audience that expects your regular posts.
