Tying Offline with Online Marketing

Online and offline marketing may seem like two very distinct spaces, however today they could not be more fluid. Many businesses are taking advantage of the fact that their content, promotions and communications strategies can (with some work) seamlessly work together. Does yours? If not, take a look at our recommendations for how to best tie offline and online marketing together:

  • Different channels encourage different behaviours. Ensure that your online presence is pristine and consistent, and is how you want others to view your company. If you were researching your business as if you were an actual customer, would your company come across as desirable? Ensure you have appropriate content on your various platforms and they translate well in the offline environment – are you able to direct these people to relevant information that they’re looking for? If you are unsure how to do this, check out our two part blog series on where to begin with online marketing here.

  • Search online for trends in the area that your business is focusing on. What are people talking about, and what key words are being used? Join the conversation and encourage your followers to as well.
  • If you are attending or hosting an event, use a hashtag on Twitter. They are easy to monitor, and you are able to compare/improve your strategy for your next event. This is also a great way to converse and network with others who are passionate about a specific topic.
  • Provide links to your social media profiles on your promotional materials, and make mention of the fact you’re on social media outside your shop.
  • Get out into your local community –Have you met in person with someone who you follow on social media? Mention them and let them know it was great to see them. Small gestures such as this demonstrate that you value your connections and customers.
  • Sending holiday cards (offline) and online messages to your followers is a great way to demonstrate that you care about your customers.

  • Is it important that your brand “appears” in a consistent manner across all online platforms, and translates effectively offline as well. People must be able to recognize and connect with your brand offline if all they have seen is your online presence, or vice versa.
  • Implementing a positive marketing strategy will result in continuous conversations about your brand, both on and offline.

  • Promote offline events online, and do the opposite if feasible. At the event, encourage people to go online. Ensure your messages are clear, especially if there are calls to action. Use words like “visit” “sign up” “like” and “redeem” to show your customers what you want them to do.
  • Finally, and most importantly, make your content engaging and shareable.
